This was the best airshow ever staged. The Navy marshaled 184 planes, including a 54 plane fly over from the USS Stennis Aircraft Carrier.
If I had more tolerance for crowds I would have been in the thick of it down on Harbor Island. But I’m a wuss and only shot from the hills of Pt. Loma. That wasn’t such a bad idea since I had a brand new D700, a D300, a 70-200 VR II and a 300mm 2.8 on a monopod. I was ready, Freddy!
Being eye level for much of the show was a vantage point I’ve never experienced in my 30 years of shooting airshows. I got some very cool photos. Enjoy the 100th Anniversary of Naval Aviation on a beautiful San Diego afternoon.
